Commercial Carrier Journal celebrates 100th anniversary

TUSCALOOSA, ALA. (March 2011) – This month, Commercial Carrier Journal magazine, published by Fusable Business Media & Information, joins the ranks of an elite group when it celebrates its 100th anniversary. Only a handful of magazines – including Popular Science and Sports Afield – have the enduring popularity necessary to last a century or more.
The first issue of Commercial Car Journal, CCJ’s predecessor, was published on March 15, 1911, and the magazine has been published monthly ever since. CCJ’s birth coincides roughly with that of the trucking industry it covers, and the magazine has traced trucking’s history every step of the way.
“When CCJ started, the editorial debate was whether the motor truck could replace the horse and buggy for urban deliveries,” says CCJ Editor Jeff Crissey. “Our industry has certainly come a long way, and today’s fleet executives use every technology available to make their role in the global supply chain as efficient as possible. It’s an honor to lead a publication with such a rich history.”
To mark CCJ’s centennial anniversary, the magazine’s editors devoted the March issue to a retrospective on the last 100 years in trucking. The issue includes a list of the 100 most important regulations, innovations and events that have shaped the world of trucking, along with a historic timeline. CCJ and its editors have received numerous awards through the years, including 14 Jesse H. Neal awards and many regional and national American Society of Business Press Editors honors.
